Cold Gas in Cluster Cores
I review the literature's census of the cold gas in clusters of galaxies. Cold gas here is defined as the gas that is cooler than X-ray emitting temperatures (∼ 10 7 K) and is not in stars. I present new Spitzer IRAC and MIPS observations of Abell 2597 that reveal significant amounts of warm dust and star formation at the level of 5 solar masses per year.
متن کاملCold fission as cluster decay with dissipation.
For cold ~neutronless! fission we consider an analytical model of quantum tunneling with dissipation through a barrier U(q) evaluated with a M3Y nucleon-nucleon force. We calculate the tunneling spectrum, i.e., the fission rate as a function of the total kinetic energy of the fragments. The theoretical results are compared with the experimental data obtained for the fine structure of two cold f...
متن کاملCLUSTER ALGEBRAS AND CLUSTER CATEGORIES
These are notes from introductory survey lectures given at the Institute for Studies in Theoretical Physics and Mathematics (IPM), Teheran, in 2008 and 2010. We present the definition and the fundamental properties of Fomin-Zelevinsky’s cluster algebras. Then, we introduce quiver representations and show how they can be used to construct cluster variables, which are the canonical generator...
متن کاملCold dust in late-type Virgo Cluster galaxies
We have statistically analyzed the spatially integrated far-infrared (FIR) emissions of the complete volumeand luminosity-limited sample of late-type (later than S0) Virgo cluster galaxies measured using the Infrared Space Observatory (ISO) by Tuffs et al. (2002) in bands centered on 60, 100 & 170μm. 30 out of 38 galaxies detected at all three wavelengths contain a cold dust emission component,...
متن کاملDistribution of magnetization of a cold ferromagnetic cluster beam
Above a critical temperature, a supported single domain ferromagnetic particle responds to an applied magnetic field as if it were a paramagnet with a very large spin. Its average magnetization is given by the Langevin equation as expected from simple thermodynamic considerations. The average magnetization of an ensemble of unsupported ferromagnetic clusters also approximately follows the Lange...
